Fedex Cup and all that

Fed Ex Cup and all that.

British Open won by a European and an Irishman at that. Well done Paddy and bad luck Sergio. Speaking of Sergio – get a grip son! Golf is like that – you play great and someone plays better. You win some, you lose some. All the time honored clichés apply and whining about it just makes you look like a prat. If that’s a little harsh, then so be it. He has all the talent in the world, but unless he grows up – a lot – then he will remain a pretender instead of a contender. There, I’ve got that off my chest and feel lots better. Anyone that wants to rebut that, please do, you know my email address and it would be nice to think that it’s not just my Mum and Dad who read this!

The PGA was interesting – who won it? Umm… that’s right Tiger. Number thirteen. Unlucky for some (Sergio, are you there?) but not for the maestro. You don’t hear Tiger complaining about bad breaks, bad luck – mind you he doesn’t seem to get too much of either. Seem just a matter of time before he breaks Jack’s record and then what? When he does, perhaps there will be no more mountains to climb and he will go onto something else. We forget that even though he is still a young man, especially by golf standards, he has been doing this one way or another, for all of his life. We shall see and in the mean time, enjoy the most gifted golfer that has ever played the game.

The Fed Ex Cup is in full swing and the jury is still out as to the format and the enthusiasm of some of the participants. The first two tournaments have been played without Tiger for the first and Ernie for the second. Now it seems as though Phil will miss the third. Tiger was tired, Ernie wanted to see the kids off to school and Phil is playing no speakies with the Tour Commissioner – Tim Finchem. Seems Phil asked for a few things to be done and they weren’t – so no Phil for the penultimate event. It’s a tough life at the top folks when you can turn your nose up at playing for five or six million (US). Is this where the violins start to tune up for the poor hard working, long suffering golf pros out there? I might add that Sergio is playing – good boy!

The Solheim Cup is being played week after next. The Solheim for the uninitiated is the ladies version of the Ryder Cup. It’s being played in Sweden and the U.S. team will go in as firm favorites. I think that Europe will give them a bit of a run for their money as the home ground advantage is not to be underestimated. Let’s hope that it gets the publicity and recognition that it deserves. It’s golf at its very best and well worth a look. Whilst talking about the girls – we have a new tournament in Singapore early next year. The HSBC Championship to be played at the lovely Tanah Mera Country Club. Two million U.S is up for grabs and will feature the best seventy or so lady players in the world. It’s fantastic for women’s golf and for Asian golf as a whole. Roll on February and well done to all concerned for bringing it to Singapore.

On a far more important note – the monthly ladies day is being held this coming Friday at Green Fairways. The normal stuff – nine am start to be followed by lunch. It’s a great way to meet new girls that are into the game and no, you don’t have to good – just keen. The following Wednesday night at seven p.m in the bar at Green Fairways, there will be a Rules and Etiquette night. It’s really just an excuse just to have a girl’s night out and have a chat over a glass of wine. Any excuse will do! And on that note – Cheers!
